Is It Time To Replace Your Compression Stockings?

REPLACING YOUR COMPRESSION STOCKINGS?Stockings were hung

Are your stockings hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas will soon be there? What shape and condition are those socks in? Are they still compressing well and providing the necessary containment, or is it time to replace your compression stockings? If you wear your compression stockings daily, the compression will last four to six months. You should be able to tell when your socks need replacing as they will get easier and easier to don and doff.

Good quality compression stockings are not cheap, yet they must be replaced regularly. Putting off purchasing new stockings can be much more expensive in the long run and cause more complications with your lymphedema. I am offering a few suggestions that might be helpful.

Core-Spun ArgyleIT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN

It’s that time of year again when everyone wants to know what you want for Christmas. Even if I insist that I do not need or want anything, my family still wants to give. Instead of getting items you don’t need, why not ask for new compression stockings? I’m sure your family would like to provide you with something you could use rather than trying to guess at something you might want.

SPEND DOWN ACCOUNTS

Does your company provide a spend-down account for medical supplies? Do you have to use it by the end of the year? Although The Compression Closet does not bill for any insurance, we are registered as medical health care, and your spend-down account should work on the website. Don’t let those dollars go to waste. Why not use them to replace your compression stockings?

STOCKING FUND

Instead of a Christmas Fund, why not start a stocking fund? How much will your compression cost for the year? Divide that into the twelve months of the year, and each month, contribute to that fund so that you will always have good-quality compression.

ASK FOR HELPDonning compression socks

Can you not afford compression garments for your condition? Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Many hospitals and facilities have funds they can tap into for those who cannot afford them. The Compression Closet offers an incentive plan for therapists—half-off or free garments, depending on how many referrals they send to us.

I also have some donated products that I can provide at no charge to you. My supply is limited, but don’t be afraid to ask. I’d much rather these garments be put to good use rather than sit in my closet collecting dust.

YOU ARE WORTH IT

Make yourself a priorityYes, replacing your compression stockings can be a significant expense. At The Compression Closet, we strive to keep our prices reasonable while ensuring we can continue to provide quality care. I’m here to support you in any way I can, so don’t hesitate to reach out. Remember, your health is invaluable, and you are worth it! Self-care is not selfish. It’s essential!
